Proper Identification for Notarizing Documents in Michigan
One of the primary functions of a Notary Public is to identify an individual who is signing a document. In all states, clear guidelines are given on how to confirm that identification.

Power of Attorney
As a Mobile Notary, there are many times that I have gone to an assisted living facility, hospital, rehabilitative facility, or even an individual’s home as they pre-plan their financial and estate documents. Many times I have heard that while they have a Power of Attorney, a financial institution will not honor their document, so they need to re-sign a new form. This form is usually specific to the institution itself, and at other times, specific language is required to be contained in a Power of Attorney form.

Background Checks for Company Employees
In companies that require continual background checks for their employees (new hires, companies opening, annual/periodic checks, etc.), one might consider a potential benefit of hiring a mobile notary to come on-site to perform this service in a day-long session, contract by month, or something of similar comparison.

If still in doubt, you can always consult with an attorney or other expert.

The perception of success of such interactions is dependent on employees "who can adjust themselves to the personality of the guest".

Who Can A Notary Perform a Notarization For?
Recently I had someone contact me for GNW (general notary work) with regards to her father. Our schedules conflicted at the time, so we were unable to proceed. When I followed up the next week to see if she still needed my assistance, I was glad to hear that she was able to get the document taken care of. She then proceeded to tell me her mother-in-law was a notary and was able to help her. Initially this caused me a little concern, hearing the “in-law” aspect. However, since it was for her father, the rules regarding “in-laws” would not have applied in this situation.

What is an I-9 Form
“The I-9 form, issued by the U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS) verifies the identity and employment eligibility for employees hired in the U.S. The form is to be completed by both the employee and the employer (or authorized representative). As part of the process, the employee must present documents verifying his or her eligibility to work in the U.S., and the employer (or authorized representative) must physically examine these documents.” (Except from the National Notary Association.
